American Horror Story: Web Calendaring

Tuesday, Oct 23 8:30 - 9:15

Presented by Jason Pontius

For the last few years, the LiveWhale Calendar team has come to HighEdWeb to talk about how a great calendar can be an important marketing tool.

Your calendar is the only page of your website that literally everyone who cares about your school is interested in. When you can present your calendar of events in a beautiful and compelling way, and curate featured events to highlight what’s best about your college or university, your storytelling opportunities are endless.

But what if your calendar isn’t great? What’s the worst that could happen?

Let’s find out.

In this presentation we’ll take a haunted journey to the dark side of Web calendaring— the worst-case scenarios. We’ll witness the terror of universities with active, dynamic campus communities and not a single event on the calendar. We’ll scream at the sight of schools with 18 separate calendars and no way to see what’s happening this weekend. We’ll admire beautiful, award-winning college websites that drop us into a dark, infinite abyss of terror when we click “Events.”

Will your school’s calendar be in our presentation? Fear not: we’ll mask all names and identifying details to protect the innocent.

And best of all: no matter how grisly or terrifying your online calendar may be, there’s always an easy path out of the darkness and into the light. We’ll show you the way.
